Iminodisuccinic acid salt can be used to produce readily biodegradable micro element nutrient chelates fertilizers that are applied in agriculture and horticulture as foliar sprays, in soil application as well as in hydroponics and fertigation.
1. Bactericidal effect
Chelated copper has a strong bactericidal ability. Copper ions can destroy the cell structure and function of microorganisms. In agriculture, it can prevent and control a variety of plant diseases, such as inhibiting the growth of bacteria causing citrus canker and downy mildew in vineyards. Compared with traditional copper preparations, its bactericidal effect is more long-lasting because its stable structure enables it to slowly release copper ions. In aquaculture, it can control harmful algae and bacteria and maintain the ecological balance of water bodies. For example, it can inhibit the reproduction of blue-green algae in fish ponds.
2. Supplying copper element for plants
Copper is an essential trace element for plants. Chelated copper provides a copper source that is easily absorbed by plants. It participates in a variety of physiological processes of plants and is a component of many enzymes. For example, it participates in the photosynthetic electron transport chain in photosynthesis. During the growth of wheat, an appropriate amount of chelated copper can improve the photosynthetic efficiency. It also promotes the reproductive growth of plants. During the flowering period of fruit trees, it can increase the vitality of pollen and the growth rate of pollen tubes, increase the fruit setting rate, and affect the quality of seeds, making the seeds plump, with a high germination rate and robust seedlings.
3. Improving the stress resistance of plants
Under environmental stress, chelated copper helps plants enhance their resistance. During drought, it can regulate the osmotic pressure of plant cells and enhance the water-holding capacity of leaves of plants such as corn. It can enhance the tolerance of plants to heavy metal pollution, interact with heavy metal ions to reduce toxicity, and reduce the accumulation of heavy metals in plants in contaminated soils.
